Peyton's Place opened for business as a restaurant and cabin rental facility with jon boats to rent to fishermen who came to the Illinois River for the large- and small-mouth bass, catfish and other species that populate the river. In 1987, the restaurant was converted into the camp store that serves as the base for Peyton's Place today.
Peyton's Place Camp Store bread, chips, candy, soft drinks, beer, ice, picnic supplies, packaged sandwiches, and other items which make camping or staying in a cabin on the river more enjoyable without having to drive several miles to find a restaurant. The store is well stocked in last minute items including: sunscreen, bug spray, water shoes, shorts, shirts, and hats. The store also serves as the offices for raft, kayak and canoe rentals, shuttles, lodging and camping rentals, and information about fishing and paddling activities on the Illinois River.
